So, what do you think would happen if a high school program was put into place to improve teens’ health and wellness through exercise, nutrition, and wellness? At one high school in Portland, Oregon, their class of 240 freshman lost 1233 pounds in one school year. The HealthCorps program at Benson High School in Portland, Oregon coordinated by Amy Barras, and implemented by its teachers was the focus of the new documentary, Heart of the Matter, directed by Kelly Amis. Amy Barras, and HealthCorps Academic Officer, Dr. Shawn Hayes join Ellen Goldsmith on Health Currents Radio for a 2 part interview on the film and the program Fit to Live and Learn instituted at Benson High School.
